The first 100 days

Judging a fresh start by its first 100 days goes back to Franklin D. Roosevelt's first months in office in 1933, when Congress passed a wave of New Deal laws. It has been a yardstick for new presidents ever since, and businesses borrowed it for the new manager's "100-day plan": listen, learn and deliver a few early wins. It's long enough to get something done and short enough to stay focused.

Worked example: day 100 of a presidency

The next US presidential term begins on Saturday, January 20, 2029. 100 days after that is Monday, April 30, 2029. But if you count inauguration day itself as day 1, day 100 is Sunday, April 29. That one-day gap between counting after a date and counting from it trips people up with every long count, so decide which one you need. This calculator counts after: tomorrow is day 1.

In working days, 100 business days from January 20, 2029 is Tuesday, June 12, 2029, more than 20 weeks later, once weekends, Presidents' Day and Memorial Day are skipped.

100 days of school

Many US elementary schools celebrate the 100th day of school. It counts school days, not calendar days, so it comes much later than 100 days after the first day of class, often in February. You can get close here by counting 100 business days from the first day of school, then adding the school's own breaks and teacher days, which aren't on any public holiday calendar.
