Net 45 payment terms
Net 45 gives the customer 45 calendar days from the invoice date to pay. It's common with larger companies and in industries with long supply chains, where 30 days is too tight to get an invoice through approval. An invoice dated Friday, October 1, 2027 is due on Monday, November 15, 2027. Two federal holidays fall inside that span, Columbus Day on October 11 and Veterans Day on November 11, but they don't change a calendar-day due date. They do matter if the terms say 45 business days: that would run to Wednesday, December 8, 2027, after Thanksgiving is skipped too.
The 45-day rule in a 1031 exchange
In a deferred like-kind exchange of real estate under section 1031 of the tax code, the IRS gives you 45 days from the day you transfer the property you're selling to identify replacement property in writing, and 180 days to receive it, or until your tax return is due if that's sooner. Sell on Monday, March 15, 2027, and the identification deadline is Thursday, April 29, 2027; the 180-day deadline is Saturday, September 11, 2027. The IRS says these limits can't be extended for hardship, only after presidentially declared disasters, so don't count on a weekend to buy extra time. Check every date with your qualified intermediary or tax adviser.
COBRA's first payment
If you elect COBRA health coverage after leaving a job, the Department of Labor says your plan must give you at least 45 days after you elect to make the first premium payment. Elect on Monday, July 12, 2027, and 45 days later is Thursday, August 26, 2027. Your plan's election notice states the actual deadline.
