Four weeks, not a month
28 days is exactly four weeks, so it always lands on today's weekday. Only one month is that short: February in a common year. From February 1, 2027, 28 days takes you to March 1, 2027, the same as adding a month. From any other date, four weeks ends one to three days before the same date next month: 28 days from January 4, 2027 is February 1, not February 4.
Why 28-day cycles mean 13 bills a year
Some phone plans, subscriptions and payrolls run on 28-day or four-weekly cycles instead of calendar months. Thirteen cycles of 28 days make 364 days, so you pay, or get paid, 13 times in most years instead of 12. A plan that renews on Monday, January 4, 2027 renews for the 13th time on Monday, January 3, 2028, a day earlier in the calendar than it started, and it keeps drifting a day each year (two after a leap day). Compare prices by the year: $20 every 28 days comes to $260 over 13 payments, not $240.
Four-weekly payroll, common in the UK and used by some US employers, works the same way: 13 paydays a year, each one on the same weekday.
Worked example with business days
From Thursday, January 28, 2027, 28 days later is Thursday, February 25, 2027. Those four weeks hold 20 weekdays, but Presidents' Day on February 15 is a federal holiday, so only 19 of them are business days. Counting 28 business days instead runs to Wednesday, March 10, 2027, almost six weeks out.
