Twelve weeks from today is 84 days away, on today's weekday. It's a little under three months (89 to 92 days) and one week short of a quarter, which is 13 weeks. So a 12-week program that starts at the beginning of a quarter finishes with a week to spare.

FMLA leave: 12 workweeks

The Family and Medical Leave Act gives eligible employees up to 12 workweeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period, according to the Department of Labor. For continuous leave, holidays don't stretch it: when a holiday falls in a week you're on leave for the whole week, the entire week counts as FMLA leave. So 12 weeks of leave starting Monday, October 4, 2027 runs through Sunday, December 26, and you'd be due back on Monday, December 27, 2027, even though Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the observed Christmas Day fall in between.

Counting 60 business days instead would push the return to Monday, January 3, 2028, a week later, which is why the business-day setting isn't right for continuous FMLA leave. Intermittent and reduced-schedule leave is counted in hours or days instead; your HR team or the DOL's FMLA pages can confirm your dates.

12 weeks of pregnancy

Pregnancy is usually counted in weeks from the first day of the last menstrual period, not from conception, so "12 weeks pregnant" is about 10 weeks after conception. This page can add weeks for you: if you're 8 weeks along today, you'll be 20 weeks in 12 weeks' time. Your doctor or midwife will give you your actual dates, and a due date is an estimate.
